Disks, Sharing, Mounting
- /usr/sbin/share (/etc/dfs/*) Cosmos disk array
and NFS-mount on Eric;
- keep general users' home dirs on Cosmos disk array, at least for now;
- have current Eric users see their Cosmos disk-space as their home-dir
with their Eric space accessible through a link (i.e., edit auto_home)
and ensure their Eric-space is mounted as necessary;
- increase disk capacity on Eric for software installation on
Eric, new users' space and increased scratch space:
- Replace 9Gb disks with 36Gb disks in D1000 arrays:
about 800 Sterling each disk;
- Install Linux on one of the old Dell servers and NFS mount disks;
- SCSI disks in a purpose built/purchased Linux box, NFS mounted:
- 36Gb IBM 10,000rpm, U160, 155+vat each;
36.7Gb Seagate, 10,000, U160, 181+vat (or 15,000rpm, 266+vat);
73Gb Maxtor/Quantum, 10,000rpm, U160, 504+vat;
73.4Gb Seagate, 10,000, U320, 383+vat;
- Adaptec U160 SCSI card, 153+vat;
- Fast network card?
- Host machine?
- Software: Linux, zero cost.
