Eric Clients

Until recently Eric had 11 NIS+ clients spread around Chemisty, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. These need to be made independent of Eric.

I have taken the opportunity to upgrade each from Solaris 7 to 8, patch each and firewall them (using IP Filter). This has been done in conjunction with Steve Liem, Dave Riley and John Chinn.

• both clients in chemistry have been done;
• 4 of 4 in mech-eng have been done --- probably all 5 by the time you read this;
• one of two in action have been done in civil-eng (the remaining two are in storage);

Given the recent history of hacked Unix boxes around campus, I believe it would be a good idea if some formal memo was sent to these departments to ensure they know they are now fully responsible for these clients (Ultra 5s and 10s) and any further work done by us will be a _favour_.
