5. Silicon Graphics and Irix
Several SGI machines on campus are running an old version of Irix, e.g., 5.3.
SGI do not bundle a C compiler with the operating system. One can of course
use the GCC. Alternatively, SGI offer the Iris Development Option (IDO)
for Irix 5.3 for free download:

Having downloaded the distribution/package, proceed as follows:
where path is where the untarred distribution. Then,
within inst
| install c_dev
install compiler_dev
install irix4_c
go
|
The compiler installs in /usr/bin.
