by Ken Thompson for the first UNIX system in 1970.
- C developed by Dennis Ritchie from B but unlike BCPL and B, C includes
[weak] data-typing and derived types.
- C spread beyond its original, designed use --- systems programming --- to
all computer applications: from kernel and device-drivers
to numerical analysis and GUIs.
