How to Print --- The Short Version

  1. Print (or export) to a Postscript file from your application. Ensure the output is true generic Postscript, e.g., the first line of the file should be %!PS-Adobe-3.0 (with no "control-D" character at the beginning). Unless this is the case, the job will be rejected.

  2. Send the file to a particular queue:
            /usr/local/bin/lpr -P<queuename> <filename>

    For example:
            /usr/local/bin/lpr -Pusuls1-duplex my_report.ps

N.B. There is no space between -P and the queue name and you must specify a queue name --- there is no default.

Users should not attempt to print directly from applications (e.g., by using File->Print... from the menu). Always use the procedure outlined above.
